How to apply and selection criteria for foreign visitors
- Eligible candidates can apply directly to The Netherlands Institute for Heritage, or can be proposed by the Dutch consulates and embassies abroad, heritage-related contacts in the Netherlands or abroad, or are actively approached by The Netherlands Institute for Heritage itself.
- Applications are granted on a first come first serve basis.
- Evaluation of applications will normally take up to 4-6 weeks after submission, as it is a prerequisite for both The Netherlands Institute for Heritage and the Netherlands embassy in the respective country to agree to the visit.

- A complete application must consist of a covering letter with a statement of motivation, including a curriculum vitae of the visitor; themes or topics the visitor would like to address; a description of what the visitor would like to achieve in this visit; the goals for the shorter and longer term; information about the sort of organisations or people the visitor would like to meet; possible data of the visit.
- Visitors are expected to return a visitors report (1-2 pages) within two months of the visit, stating the relevance and gained experience during the visit, (expected) results and future plans.
- Visitors should be able to express themselves in English.
