International themes
Europe
The theme European cooperation focuses on connecting the heritage sector with Europe. The Netherlands Institute for Heritage enhances the position of cultural heritage in the European Union (EU) and increases the knowledge of the Dutch heritage field on EU policy and developments. It provides a platform for sharing knowledge and experience for heritage professionals. Within the theme, the opportunities the EU offers in heritage policy and finances are provided by information days, debates, study trips, publications, foreign visits, working groups and EU projects. The institute promotes cultural heritage abroad by participating in various networks with governments, heritage institutes and networks as Europa Nostra, EUROCLIO and EU Contact Points. Amongst these and other organisations we cooperate on the European playing field to strengthen the international promotion of heritage.
Mutual Cultural Heritage
The Institute has a strong interest in the history we share with trading partners dating back to the times of the East and West-Indian Companies (VOC and WIC). This heritage is composed of a mix of cultures from two or even more countries. The conservation and proper use of historic assets is a joint responsibility, for which shared interest and cooperation are vital. Together with Dutch and local NGOs, universities, the Dutch government services and Dutch embassies in the countries involved, the Institute has a coordinating task. The international cultural policy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science actively supports mutual heritage overseas.
